The trip can be completed comfortably on asphalt roads, so it is also suitable for less experienced riders or for those who do not want to deal with complicated turns. Riders looking for a more natural experience can also choose a more off-road variant according to the cycling map.
The route starts in Nitrianske Rudno, close to the well-known water reservoir. The trip to Bojnice is one of the pleasant e-bike routes in the area, giving you a clear destination and the option to choose an easier ride profile.
A major advantage of this route is that it can be ridden on asphalt roads. This version is suitable for riders who prefer to play it safe, do not want to get lost and want a more relaxed ride without difficult navigation in the terrain. Just follow the main route through the surrounding villages towards Bojnice.
Although the route is not technically difficult, you should count on approximately 600 metres of elevation gain. This is exactly where an e-bike makes sense, helping on the climbs and keeping the whole trip enjoyable even for riders who are not used to longer hilly routes.
Those who want to make the trip more varied can also choose a more off-road variant according to the cycling map. It may lead along quieter roads, field or forest sections and offers a more natural riding character. We recommend this option mainly in dry weather and for riders with at least basic experience riding outside asphalt roads.
The main attraction of the route is Bojnice. After arriving, you can take a break near Bojnice Castle, in the town centre, near the spa area or plan a stop for refreshments. Thanks to its clear destination, this route works well as a nice half-day trip or a relaxed full-day e-bike ride.
The return to Nitrianske Rudno follows a similar direction. If you choose the asphalt version, navigation is simple and the route is easy to follow even for less experienced riders. For the off-road variant, we recommend checking the cycling map more carefully and adapting the ride to the current surface conditions.
We recommend this route for riders who want an easier e-bike trip with a pleasant destination, asphalt surface and simple navigation. If you prefer more nature and a calmer ride, you can also choose a more off-road alternative according to the cycling map.
Nitrianske Rudno – Čičmany – easy asphalt trip
An easy and relaxed e-bike route from Nitrianske Rudno to Čičmany and back. It follows mostly asphalt roads, making it suitable for riders who do not want to deal with mud, forest sections or more demanding navigation in the terrain. The destination is the well-known village of Čičmany with its typical painted wooden houses.
The route starts in Nitrianske Rudno, close to the well-known water reservoir. Starting by the water already gives the trip a pleasant recreational feel. From there, you continue towards the Strážov Mountains and gradually reach one of the best-known villages in the region — Čičmany.
The big advantage of this route is the asphalt surface. The trip is therefore suitable even after rain or during periods when forest and gravel roads are wet and muddy. If you do not want to get the bike dirty and prefer a clear route without complicated turn-offs, this version is a very good choice.
During the ride, you can expect moderate climbs, quiet sections through the Strážov Mountains landscape and pleasant descents. On an e-bike, the route is manageable even for less experienced riders because it is not technically difficult terrain. However, keep in mind that the total distance is approximately 50 km.
The destination is Čičmany, known for its painted wooden houses and mountain atmosphere. It is an ideal place for a break, a short walk, photos or refreshments before returning to Nitrianske Rudno.
The route is suitable for riders who want a nice trip with a clear destination but do not want to ride technical terrain. Thanks to the asphalt surface, navigation is easier and the ride feels calmer than mountain or forest routes.
You return along the same route back to Nitrianske Rudno. After coming back, you can extend the trip with a break by the reservoir, refreshments or some time by the water. In the summer months, Nitrianske Rudno is a pleasant place to finish an e-bike trip.
We recommend this trip especially when you want an easier asphalt route, a clean bike, simple navigation and a nice destination in the form of Čičmany. On an e-bike, the route remains pleasant despite its distance and elevation gain, because electric assistance helps mainly on the climbs towards Čičmany.
Nitrianske Rudno – Kanianka – Čavoj – Temeš loop
A longer circular e-bike trip from Nitrianske Rudno through Kanianka, Poruba, Chvojnica, Čavoj and Temeš. The route passes through quieter villages, the hilly landscape of the Strážov Mountains and less frequented sections, making it suitable for riders who want a proper full-day trip away from the busiest routes.
The route starts in Nitrianske Rudno and gradually heads through Kostolná Ves and Dlžín towards Kanianka. The opening section has a pleasant touring character, but from the beginning it is clear that this will not be a completely flat loop around the reservoir.
Around Kanianka, the trip enters a more open landscape near Upper Nitra. This section is suitable for smooth riding, a relaxed pace and gradually gaining elevation before the next part of the route towards Poruba and Chvojnica.
After Poruba and Chvojnica, the route starts to feel more mountainous. The roads are calmer, the landscape becomes more varied and the trip takes on a stronger Strážov Mountains character. This is where you will appreciate the e-bike the most, as it helps on longer climbs and makes it easier to keep a comfortable pace throughout the loop.
Čavoj is one of the most interesting points on this route. It is a quiet mountain village surrounded by hills, meadows and forests. A ride through Čavoj is suitable for riders who do not want just a quick transfer to Bojnice or around the water, but are looking for a more scenic and peaceful loop through less busy places.
From Čavoj, the route continues towards Temeš and then through Nevidzany and Liešťany back to Nitrianske Rudno. This part offers pleasant descents, views and a natural return towards the reservoir. The loop is varied, alternating between villages, hilly landscapes, forest sections and more open views.
We recommend this route for riders who already have at least basic fitness and want a longer e-bike trip. It is not technically extreme, but due to its length, climbs and hilly profile, it is better suited as a full-day programme.
If you are looking for an easier trip, the route from Nitrianske Rudno to Bojnice or the asphalt trip towards Čičmany will be more suitable. This loop through Kanianka, Chvojnica and Čavoj is a better choice when you want more kilometres, more hills and a calmer ride through less frequented places.
Prievidza – Bojnice – below Čierny vrch – back (Rokoš radial route)
A more demanding e-bike trip from the area between Prievidza and Bojnice towards the slopes below Čierny vrch. The route leads through quieter parts of Upper Nitra, the area around Šútovské sedlo, Nitrianske Rudno and Rudnianska Lehota up to Kšinianska poľana. It is a good choice for riders who want a longer trip with significant elevation gain, forest sections and a more mountainous character.
The route starts in the area between Prievidza and Bojnice, near Bojnická cesta. The opening section is practical because you start directly from an area with good access to Bojnice and Prievidza. Gradually, however, you leave the urban surroundings and enter hillier terrain towards Šútovské sedlo and below Rokoš.
This route has the character of a longer sport-oriented e-bike trip. It is not a short relaxed loop by the water, but a ride with more than a thousand metres of elevation gain. This is why an e-bike makes a lot of sense here — it helps especially on longer climbs, where a regular bike ride would be significantly more demanding for many riders.
Along the way, asphalt, paved and forest sections alternate. The route is therefore more suitable for a mountain e-bike and for riders who are not discouraged by less smooth surfaces. After rain, some forest sections may be softer or more slippery, so we recommend this route mainly in drier weather.
A distinctive point of the trip is Kšinianska poľana and the area below Čierny vrch. Čierny vrch belongs to the Strážov Mountains and is known for its forested character, rocky cliffs and views of the surrounding landscape. The cycling route does not necessarily lead all the way to the summit, but it takes you close to it and below its slopes.
On the way back, you return in a similar direction towards the Prievidza and Bojnice area. Although the riding time according to the map is around 4 hours, we recommend allowing a larger time reserve. With this level of elevation gain, it is worth riding calmly, taking breaks, refilling water and enjoying the quieter sections away from busy roads.
We recommend this route for more experienced riders or for those who want to make full use of an e-bike. It is suitable as a full-day programme for people looking for hills, forest roads, views and a less common trip outside the classic routes around Bojnice or Nitrianske Rudno.
If you are looking for an easier trip, a shorter asphalt route from Nitrianske Rudno to Bojnice or a ride near the reservoir will be more suitable. This route below Čierny vrch is a better choice when you want a more demanding profile, more elevation gain and a more mountainous riding character.
Nitrianske Rudno – Čičermanské sedlo – Galgenberg loop
A longer e-bike loop from Nitrianske Rudno through Čičermanské sedlo, Nitrianske Pravno and back via Kanianka and Dlžín. The route is almost 60 km long, has more significant elevation gain and offers a nice combination of mountain character, quieter roads, descents and places to rest. Around the halfway point, you can add a pleasant stop at the Galgenberg brewery.
The route starts near Nitrianske Rudno and from the beginning heads into the hillier landscape of the Strážov Mountains. The first part of the trip leads towards Čičermanské sedlo, where you gradually gain elevation and the ride takes on a more mountainous character.
The climb to Čičermanské sedlo is one of the most distinctive parts of the route. It is not technically extreme, but because of the longer climb and overall elevation gain, it is better suited for riders with at least basic fitness. On an e-bike, this section is much more manageable and electric assistance makes a real difference here.
After crossing the pass, the route continues towards Nitrianske Pravno. This part of the trip feels calmer and is suitable for easing the pace after the more demanding climb. Nitrianske Pravno is also a natural place to plan a longer break before the second half of the loop.
Around the halfway point, you can naturally include a stop at the Galgenberg brewery. It is a pleasant place for a short rest, to regain energy or refresh yourself during a longer trip. When cycling, we recommend sticking to non-alcoholic drinks, water or a light snack.
If you are interested in local craft beer, the safer option is to buy a bottled beer to take with you and enjoy it only after the ride. The route is almost 60 km long, includes several descents and almost 1,000 metres of elevation gain, so it is important to stay focused and ride safely.
From Nitrianske Pravno, the route continues back via Kanianka, Dlžín and the area around Nitrianske Rudno. The second half of the trip is longer, but more varied in profile. Quieter sections, villages, rolling terrain and the return towards the reservoir alternate throughout the ride.
We recommend this loop as a full-day e-bike trip. The riding time itself is around four and a half hours, but with breaks, photos, refreshments and a stop in Nitrianske Pravno or at Galgenberg, it is better to allow a larger time reserve.
The route is suitable for riders who want more than an easy trip around the reservoir. It offers a longer loop, more noticeable climbing, a mountainous character and an interesting stop roughly in the second half of the ride. If you are looking for an easier alternative, the route from Nitrianske Rudno to Bojnice or the asphalt trip towards Čičmany will be more suitable.
Nitrianske Rudno – Kšinná – Uhrovec Castle loop
A demanding full-day e-bike loop from Nitrianske Rudno towards Kšinná, Uhrovské Podhradie and Uhrovec Castle. The route has significant elevation gain, a longer profile and combines asphalt sections, forest roads and more mountainous terrain. It is suitable for riders who want a real trip into the Strážov Mountains with an attractive historical destination.
The route starts near Nitrianske Rudno and gradually heads into the hillier part of the Strážov Mountains. From the beginning, you should expect that this is not a relaxed asphalt trip around the reservoir, but a longer loop with significant climbing and a more mountainous character.
Towards Kšinná, the landscape gradually opens up and the route gains a stronger touring character. Quieter roads, forest sections and longer climbs alternate. This is exactly the type of route where an e-bike makes sense, helping with the elevation gain without making the whole trip only about physical effort.
The main destination of the trip is Uhrovec Castle, one of the most interesting castle ruins in the wider area. It is located in a forest setting above Uhrovské Podhradie, and the trip to it has more of a hiking and mountain character. It is not a classic urban or road cycling destination, which is exactly why the route is attractive for more adventurous riders.
It is important to keep in mind that the final section to the castle may be more off-road, steeper and less suitable for cycling after rain. Depending on the chosen track and current conditions, it may be more sensible to push the bike in some places or leave it safely lower down and complete the final climb to the castle on foot.
For this reason, we recommend this route mainly for mountain e-bikes and riders who have experience riding outside smooth asphalt. It is not suitable for complete beginners or for people looking for a simple route without more demanding navigation or terrain.
After visiting the castle, the route returns via Kšinná towards Nitrianske Rudno. The return should still be treated as a full part of the trip, because the total distance exceeds 60 kilometres and the elevation gain is more than 1,400 metres.
We recommend choosing a full-day e-bike rental, setting off earlier in the morning and allowing time for water, food, photos and the castle visit itself. In dry weather, this can be a very nice and adventurous e-bike trip, but after rain or with weaker fitness, it is better to choose an easier route around Nitrianske Rudno.
